| Location Lat 5° 32' 7" Long 146° 9' 7" E Mindiri village is located on Mindiri Point on the Rai Coast portion of the north coast of New Guinea. Also spelled Mindere or Mindire. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Madang District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today, located in Rai Coast Rural LLG, Rai Coast District of Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History On March 5, 1944 U.S. Army Yalau Task Force made an amphibious landing at Yalau Plantation without opposition roughly 10 miles west of Mindiri. After establishing a beachhead, patrols advanced eastward toward Mindiri. On March 8, 1944 they captured Mindiri and linked up with patrols advancing from Yamai (Yami). This expanded the American perimeter to 40 miles west of Saidor. Today Between 2008–2011, the Ramu Nickel built the Basamuk Refinery between Duman and Bubu to the west of Mindiri and Mindiri Point. To the southeast of Mindiri Pointis the Basamuk Refinery Accomodation area. The refinery is connected by an above ground slurry pipeline that spans westward then inland to the Kurumbukari Mine (KBK Mine) on the Kurumbukari plateau in the interior of Madang Province.
