| Location Lat 5° 10′ 54″ S 145° 47′ 49″ E Siar is located on the north coast of New Guinea. To the east is Siar Island. To the south is Madang Harbor and beyond Madang. Borders Barge Point. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Madang District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Ambenob Rural LLG, Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar During the German colonial era, a Lutheran mission, and Siar plantation were establshed. In the early 1900s, Lutheran missionary Wilhelm Blum lived on Siar Island and worked on Ragetta Island (Kranket Island). Prewar Siar plantation was established at this location with coconut palms harvesting copra. Wartime History On December 18, 1942 the Japanese Army occupied the Madang area. By late April 1944, the Japanese withdrew from the area. During late April 1944, liberated by the Australian Army and developed into a base area. By June 1944 Headquarters for the 15th Infantry Brigade. On July 25, 1944 the Australian Army 7th Infantry Brigade, 61st Infantry Battalion arrived at Siar. On September 13, 1944 the Australian 25th Infantry Battalion arrives at Siar.
