Location
Lat 5° 7' 60S Long 145° 49' 60E  Siar Island is located off Siar on the north coast of New Guinea. To the south is Bilau Island and beyond Madang Harbor and Madang.

Prewar
The Sacred Heart Catholic Mission was established on Siar Island.

Wartime History
On December 18, 1942 the Japanese Army occupied the Madang area. During the Japanese occupation of the Madang area, Lutheran Missionaries from Madang and Alexishafen were interned on Siar Island. The internees included Reverend Theodore G. Braun from the Lutheran Mission in Madang. By late April 1944, the Japanese abandoned Siar Island.
