| Location Bau Plantation was located on the north coast of New Guinea. Borders Melanau Harbor. To the east is Marakum and to the west is Kul. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Madang District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today, located in Astrolabe Bay Rural LLG, Rai Coast District of Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Bau Plantation was established by the Germans as a coconut plantation harvesting copra. During the middle 1930s, the manager was Bill Tuppling. Wartime History On March 8, 1944 the U.S. Army 126th Infantry Regiment (126th IR) advanced westward to occupy Bau Plantation and to the west encountered Japanese resistance. Bill Tuppling, manager of the plantation, invited us to dine with him and to avail ourselves of a hot shower, which we appreciated.
