    Bagabag Island Madang Province Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Location
Bagabag Island encircles a sunken crater 36 square km in area circled by a fringing coral reef in the Bismarck Sea. To the northwest is Karkar Island (Kar Kar Island). To the west is the north coast of New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War was known as Madang District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Karkar Rural LLG, Sumkar District, Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, the Japanese used Bagabag Island as a barge hideout and by small ships. Several aircraft crashed or ditched in the sea around Bagabag Island. Many untouched and undiscovered reefs prolific fish and coral life are underwater.
