Location Car Nicobar Island is located at the northern end of the Nicobar Islands between the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands one of seven Union Territory of India. Also known as "Pu" in the local Car language or spelled Car Nakkavar. In 1950, became part of India. In 1956 became a Union Territory of India. World War I During 1915, HMAS Psyche visited Car Nicobar Island while patrolling the Bay of Bengal and some of her crew go ashore and swim with locals. World War II In late March 1942 the Japanese occupy the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. During May 1945 shelled by the British Eastern Fleet including light cruiser HMS Ceylon (30). Car Nicobar Airfield Built by the Japanese on Car Nicobar Island. Still in use today as Car Nicobar Air Force Base. Heito Maru Sunk August 23, 1943 by B-24 Liberators from 7th BG a mile east of Car Nicobar Island.
