| Location The Bay of Bengal borders the Indian Ocean to the south and Andaman Sea to the east. Borders Ceylon (Sri Lanka), India, Bangladesh, Burma (Myanmar) and Indonesia. Wartime History During World War II, Axis surface raiders and submarines continued to operated in the Bay of Bengal. On April 4, 1942 the Japanese Navy Ozawa's mobile unit under the command of Admiral Jisaburo Ozawa enters the Bay of Bengal. On April 5, 1942 during "Operation C" Japanese carrier aircraft and warships conduct raids against Allied shipping in the Bay of Bengal.
