Background
The U.S. Army, 41st Infantry Division (41st ID) "The Jungleers" (41st ID).

Wartime History
On March 25, 1942 the 162d Infantry Regiment arrives Bora Bota.

On March 15, 1943 the 1st Battalion "MacKechnie Force" under the command of Col Archibald R. MacKechnie (C.O. 162d Inf) occupies positions at the mouth of the Mambare River without opposition. On March 31, 1943 the "MacKechnie Force" departs for a landing further north at the mouth of the Waria River to occupy Dona. During late June 1943, the 3rd Battalion under the command of Roosevelt relieved MacKechnie Force and defended the Morobe area.

On September 25, 1943 the 162nd Infantry Regiment, having successfully completed its mission departs for Australia.
