| Location Lat 14° 16' 41S Long 170° 42' 9W Pago Pago is located in the northern coast of Tutuila Island in American Samoa in the United States of America (USA). Also spelled Pago-Pago. Borders Pago Pago Harbor to the north. Prewar Pago Pago was the seat of the American colonial government and the largest village on the island. Wartime History On December 3, 1941 submerged Japanese submarine I-10 performs a reconnaissance of Pago Pago Harbor and spots a ship identified as an Astoria-class cruiser. On January 11, 1942 Pago Pago was shelled by a Japanese submarine I-20. On March 23, 1942 periscope reconassiance performed by Japanese submarine I-25 but observes no warships or targets. On April 28, 1942 Major General Charles F. B. Price and his staff arrive at Pago Pago to take command of American Samoa.
