| Location Lat 6° 21' 41S Long 145° 31' 24E Sigoiya is located in the Highlands in New Guinea at an elevation of 6,751' / 2,057m. Wartime spelling "Sigoiya". Also spelled "Segeia" or "Sigeiya". Roughly four miles to the north is Bena Bena. Today located in Eastern Highlands Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Pacific War, this area was considered part of "uncontrolled territory" in the Highlands of New Guinea. During early May 1943, an Allied team walked from Bena Bena (Benabena) via Sigoiya before reaching Negifi. The team included USAAF Major Edward T. Imparato plus Lt. Bill Brady, Lewis Lock, Paul Reed and John "Mac" McGovern plus Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) Jack Elston and Gill Timms plus native carriers.
