    Kovelo (Pitoki) Oro Province Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Location
Kovelo is located at an elevation of 1,886' / 574m along the Kokoda Trail between Kokoda to the north and Hoi to the south. Today located in Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Prewar
Pitoki village was located near this location.

Wartime History
During late July 1942, Japanese forces occupied this area. It is believed the Japanese established a field hospital at this location. During early November 1942, Australian forces reoccupied the area during their advance towards Kokoda.

Today
Postwar, Kovelo village was established at this location. Also known as Kovelo No. 1. A cleared area on the Kokoda facing side is believed to have been a Japanese hospital area where locals have found Japanese remains and ordinance.
