| Location Merauke Regency (Kabupaten Merauke) is located in the southern portion of South Papua Province (formally Papua Province) in western New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War, part of Dutch New Guinea (DNG) forming the western portion of the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). On August 15, 1962 became part of Indonesia. Afterwards, became known as West New Guinea. Between 1964–1973 part of West Irian. Between 1973–2002 part of Irian Jaya. In 2002 part of Papua Province (Provinsi Papua). On July 25, 2022 became part of South Papua Province. Merauke Regency Locations Merauke located near the southern tip of New Guinea. Okaba located inland from the southern coast of New Guinea.
