Tjilatjap (Chilachap, Cilacap) West Java Province (Jawa Barat) Indonesia
Location
Lat 7° 43' 60S Long 109° 0' 0E  Tjilatjap is located at an elevation of 3' above sea level on the southern coast of Java. Also spelled Chilachap, Cilichap, or Cilacap. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in West Java Province in Indonesia.

Wartime History
During early February 1942 the American, British, Dutch, Australian Flotilla (ABDAFLOAT) operated from Tjilatjap. On February 27, 1942 before reaching Tjilatjap, USS Langley (AV-3) was scheduled to deliver thirty-two P-40E Warhawks and personnel but was bombed and scuttled. On February 28, 1942 arrives MS Sea Witch and unloads 27 crated P-40E Warhawks that are destroyed to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. Until the fall of Java, Tjilatjap was used to evacuate Allied personnel and Dutch civilians.

Gerrit Harlaar adds:
"The P-40s that arrived with the Sea Witch were shipped by rail to Bandoeng where the ML-KNIL personnel worked desperately round the clock to assemble them. Three P-40s were test-flown on March 7, 1942 but did not see any action. At least some of these P-40s were captured by the Japanese after Java was surrendered on March 8, 1942."

On March 8, 1942 the Allies surrendered Java and Tjilatjap was occupied by the Japanese for the remainder of the Pacific War.
