Location
Saweni Bay is located near Lautoka on the southeastern corner of Viti
Levu Island in Fiji.
Wartime History
During the summer of 1942, U.S. Navy (USN) 3rd Construction Battalion (Seabees) established a camp along Saweni Bay and constructed Saweni Bay Seaplane Base. Used as a seaplane base until August 1944. The New Zealand Army, 3rd Division, 30th Battalion landed at Saweni while en route to Lautoka.
