| Location Lat 17° 23′ 57″ S Long 145° 49′ 6″ E Mount Bartle Frere (Mt. Bartle Frere) has an elevation of 5,285' / 1,611m and is the tallest mountain in Queensland in Australia. Named for British colonial administrator Sir Henry Bartle Frere who was then president of the Royal Geographical Society. Today located in Wooroonooran National Park southwest of Babinda. To the north is Cairns. Wartime History On April 21, 1942 at 9:00pm in heavy clouds, B-25C Mitchell 41-12455 pilot 2nd Lt John J. Keeter, Jr. crashed roughly 300' from the summit.
