| Location Nome is located on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska. Borders Norton Bay. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of Alaska. On January 3, 1959 became the 49th state in the United States of America. Nome Airfield Built as an emergency field by the Army, developed into a major airfield during the Pacific War.
