Background
During October 1940 established as the Panama Canal Air Force in the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) to administer the squadrons and aircraft in the Canal Zone (CZ) and defend the Panama Canal. On June 20, 1941 became part of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). On February 5, 1942 the Caribbean Air Force is redesignated as the Sixth Air Force (6th AF).
