Background
The 182d Infantry Regiment (182d IR) was part of the U.S. Army. Motto: "Avitos Juvamus Honores" (Latin: We Uphold Our Ancient Honors). On January 16, 1941 inducted into active federal service. On January 25, 1941 moves to Camp Edwards.
Wartime History
On January 14, 1942 assigned to Task Force 6814 and is later sent aboard transports to Australia. On February 26, 1942 Task Force 6814 arrives Melbourne and unloads with the personnel camped in Ballarat, Bendigo, Darley, Royal Park and Melbourne. On March 6, 1942 departs for New Caledonia.
On May 27, 1942 assigned to the 23rd Infantry Division (23rd ID) "Americal Division".
