Background
Stanley Arthur Loewenberg was born January 9, 1910 to parents Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Loewenberg in Brooklyn, New York. Nicknamed "Stan". His older brother Jerome "Jerry" Loewenberg was born March 19, 1907. The family moved to Sea Cliff, New York on Long Island. Stanley was active in the Boy Scouts Troop No. 43 and during February 1925 became an Eagle Scout, the first in the 7th District of Nassau County. He graduated from Cornell University class of 1931 and graduated in three and a half years. Afterwards, he attended a term of graduate work at Cornell University with his batchelors degree. In September 1931 he entered the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration and was elected ato the editorial staff of the Harvard Business Review and graduated in June 1932. Married Ida Winaker and the couple lived at 1506 Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. In 1940, he worked for Abraham & Strauss on Fulton Street in Brooklyn.
World War II History
During 1941, Loewenberg received a commission in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as a 2nd Lieutenant with serial number O-0282379.
In January 1942, sent overseas to Australia and was assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 5th Bomber Command (V Bomber Command), Headquarters as an intelligence officer deployed to Port Moresby.
Mission History
On March 26, 1943 passenger aboard B-17F "Pluto" 41-24384 piloted by Brigadier General Howard K. Ramey on a reconnaissance / administrative flight that took off from 7-Mile Drome (Jackson) near Port Moresby flying via Merauke and Horn Island before returning to 7-Mile. No trace of the crew or the B-17 have even been found. The entire crew including Ramey remains listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
Memorials
Loewenberg was officially declared dead on November 19, 1945 and remains listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
Loewenberg is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing. He is also memorialized on the World War II memorial in Sea Cliff, NY. On April 26, 2013, Loewenberg had a military funeral and service with a memorial marker dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery at section MK site 17 due to the efforts of his daughter Susie Shulman and grandson David Shulman.
Awards
Loewenberg earned the Purple Heart, posthumously.

"Sea Cliff–Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Loewenberg of Sea Cliff Ave. have received word from the War Department that their son, Capt. Stanley Loewenberg of the Army Air Forces, has been "missing in action" since Mar. 26, in New Guinea. Both parents, who have another son, Major Jerome Loewenberg of the Air Forces stationed at Mitchel Field, refuse to believe that he is dead.
