Location Lat 9° 4' 45S Long 149° 19' 20E Tufi borders Tufi Harbor on Cape Nelson on the north coast of New Guinea. To the west is Oro Bay and to the soueast is Milne Bay. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Northern District in the Territory of Papua. Today part of Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Pacific War, the Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) established a station at Tufi. Later, the area was developed by the U.S. Navy (USN) into Tufi PT Boat Base for use by PT Boats. Today The former base is part of Tufi Dive Resort and Tufi regional center. Tufi PT Boat Base Established at the ANGAU Station at Tufi. PT-67 Sunk March 17, 1943 during refueling accident. PT-119 Sunk March 17, 1943 during refueling accident.
