| Location Lat 26° 41′ 15″ N Long 127° 59′ 57″ E Unten 運天 is located at the northeast tip of the Motobu Peninsula in the northern Yanbaru Region of Okinawa in Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan. To the northeast is Kouri Island and to the east is Yagaji Island. Wartime History By April 1945, the Japanese established a submarine and torpedo boat base. On April 1, 1945 after the U.S. landing on Okinawa, the Motobu Peninsula was part of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), III Amphib Corps area.
