Location Kyōto is the capital of Kyōto Prefecture in the Kansai Region on Honshū in Japan. Also spelled Kyoto. Located near Nara and Osaka. Kyōto was the old imperial capital of Japan. Arashyama Museum Closed circa 1991 Kyoto Gokoku Jinja Shrine for war dead at Kyoto. Includes a memorial to Ryoma Sakamoto, Japanese Army pilots, Destroyer Naganami and other monuments.
