| Location Ishigaki Jima (Ishigaki Island) is located in the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Island Group) in the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Ishigaki Island is the second largest island in the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Island Group). Surrounded by the East China Sea. Borders Iriomote Island (Iriomote Jima) to the west. Also known as Ishigakijima or Ishigaki-jima or Ishigaki Jima. During the Pacific War, the Americans referred to this location as Ishigaki Island. Wartime History Starting in early May 1945 attacked by Allied fighters. Many residents of Ishigaki were relocated to Iriomote Island to take refuge from Allied aerial attacks or from a possible amphibious invasion. American missions against Ishigaki May 4, 1945–June 24, 1945 Ishigaki City 石垣市 Located at the southwestern corner of the Ishigaki Island. Miyara Airfield Located in Miyara on Ishigaki Jima.
