| Location Hiroshima Bay borders Hiroshima in Hiroshima Prefecture in the Chūgoku Region on the south coast of Honshū in Japan. Hiroshima Bay includes Hashirajima, Eta Jima (Etajima) and Nishinomi Shima and beyond Kure Harbor and the Inland Sea. Mutsu Sunk June 8, 1943 after an internal magazine explosion off Hashirajima in Hiroshima Bay. SBC2 Helldiver Bureau Number 21079 Pilot Porter ditched July 28, 1945 both crew POW and died August 6, 1945 in Hiroshima during atomic bomb blast.
