| Location Flores Island is located in the Lesser Sunda Islands (Lesser Sundas). Known as Pulau Flores in Indonesian. Today, split into eight regencies in East Nusa Tenggara Province in Indonesia. Wartime History The Japanese planned Operation "S" to seizure the Lesser Sunda Islands including Flores Island. On May 14, 1942 a Japanese Army landing force made an amphibious landing at Labuhanbadjo. Meanwhile a Japanese Navy Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF) lands at Reo. Flores was occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War.
