| Location Chungking 重庆市 is located in Chongqing Municipality in China on the edge of the Yungui Plateau and the Sichuan Basin intersected by the Jialing River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It contains Daba Shan in the north, Wu Shan in the east, Wuling Shan in the southeast and the Dalou Mountain to the south. During World War II, known to the Allies as Chungking. Today spelled Chongqing. Wartime History Prewar during the Second Sino-Japanese War and Pacific War, Chungking was the capital of the Republic of China (Nationalist China). In 1937 USS Tutuila (PR-4), was stranted at Chungking until decommissioned and transfered to to the Republic of China.
