Lat 16°46′N Long 94°43′E Bassien is located near the Bassein River (Pathein River) which is a western branch of the Irrawaddy River inland from the southern coast in the Ayeyarwady Region in Burma (Myanmar). Wartime spelling Bassien. Also known as Puthein, Patheinas, Basejn, Basejn and Patheinas and Pathein. Postwar, renamed Pathein and is the capital of Ayeyarwady Region.
