Location Barahun Island is located at the western edge of Green Island Atoll bordering Nissan Island (Green Island) in Autonomous Region of Bougainville (Bougainville Province) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). To the east is Green Island Lagoon and to all other sides is the Pacific Ocean. Directly to the north and south of the island are two passages into the lagoon. Prewar Germans developed a coconut palm plantation at this location harvesting copra that operated until World War I. After 1918, the plantation was operated by Australian planters until early 1942.
