WEDNESDAY, 1 NOVEMBER 1950
VSS: Eight MiG-15s intercepted fifteen F-51D Mustangs. Lost is F-51D piloted by Aaron Abercombrie (KIA) shot down by MiG-15 piloted by 1st Lt. Fyodor V. Chizh from 50th IAD. Later that day, three MiG-15's from 50th IAD intercepted ten F-80 Shooting Star fighters. Shot down is F-80C piloted by Frank Van Sickle is shot down by MiG-15 piloted by 1st Lt. Semyon Fyodorovich Khominich, the first "jeft versus jet" victory in aviation history.
The USAF incorrectly attributed both losses to enemy anti-aircraft fire.
