Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York as P-40C Warhawk. Originally intended for the Royal Air Force (RAF) as Tomahawk Mark IIB serial number AK295. Disassembled and shipped as part of lend-lease to the Soviet Union. Wartime History During December 1941 assigned to Voenno-Vozdushnye Sily (VSS) to 147 IAP (147 Fighter Aviation Regiment) with fuselage code ZK-TWK. Ths P-40 operated on the Northern Front of the Soviet Union. Mission History On February 1, 1942 took off on a mission and was shot down. This was the first P-40 Warhawk lost in the European Theater. Wreckage This aircraft remained in situ until 1990. Salvaged and exported to the United States. Purchased by Tom Wilson of Griffon, GA. Next, purchased by Chris Gruys of Marina Del Ray, CA then sold to Provenance Fighter Sales. Restoration Transported to AvSpecs in New Zealand for restoration. Precision Aerospace was subcontracted to restore the wings and landing gear. Next, sold to Rod Lewis of Texas. Painted in the markings of U.S. Army P-40C Warhawk Tail 81-15P with fuselage code 160. On April 17, 2007 first flown by John Lamont at Ardmore Airfield and during Easter flown at the Omaka "Classic Fighters" airshow.
