Tomberg on an escort mission over Hollandia and returning encountered a severe weather front and bailed out and later returned to duty. On April 16, 1944 lost is P-38J Lightning 42-104385 pilot 1st Lt. Austin K. Neely on an escort mission over Hollandia and returning encountered a severe weather front and went Missing In Action (MIA) west of Bogadjim.
