Aircraft History Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Constructors Number 1598. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-65-CO Liberator serial number 42-40521. Flown overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), this bomber flew a familiarization mission attached to the 90th Bomb Group (90th BG), 319th Bombardment Squadron (319th BS). 380th Bombardment Group (380th BG), 528th Bombardment Squadron (528th BS) at Fenton Airfield. Nicknamed "The Golden Goose" with the nose art of a hand with a cuff link with stripes and two stars fingering a Japanese Army soldier caricature wearing a uniform and cap and boots with clenched teeth and arms extended in fists. On June 11, 1943 took off from Fenton Airfield piloted by Beller with crew no. 6 on a bombing mission FEN I-35 against Koepang on Timor. This was the bomber's first combat mission. On September 8, 1943 took off from Fenton Airfield piloted by Baker with crew no. 4 on a bombing mission FEN II-36 against Babo Airfield. On December 3, 1943 took off from Fenton Airfield piloted by Baker with crew no. 4 on a bombing mission FEN III-33 against Koepang on Timor. This was the bomber's last combat mission. In total, this B-24 flew at least thirty bombing missions. Fate During December 1943, salvaged and written off. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
