Aircraft History Built by Boeing at Seattle. Constructors Number 3198. On July 24, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-17F-20-BO Flying Fortress serial number 41-24513. Wartime History On September 26, 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 43rd Bombardment Group (43rd BG) "Ken's Men", 403rd Bombardment Squadron (403rd BS). No known nickname or nose art. The tail had dark green "tiger stripes". Mission History On November 11, 1942 took off from Iron Range Airfield piloted by Major Thomas Charles on a passenger flight and force landed on take off without injury to the crew or passengers. During the landing, the left landing gear leg collapsed and the left wing touched the ground. Afterwards, this bomber was written off. Fate Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. Officially written off October 31, 1944.
